Ernie Widmar addressed the crowd Friday evening in Blairsville, where the football field was named in honor of the former longtime coach.

He was flanked by Ed Kozar, left, a longtime member of his coaching staff, and Frank Harsh, one of Widmar’s top players during a 21-year career that spanned parts of three decades.

A pregame parade through downtown Blairsville and pregame and postgame receptions at the Blairsville Elks were held in his honor.

Blairsville dropped its opener on the newly named Ernie Widmar Field at Memorial Stadium, 16-14, when Penns Manor scored a touchdown in the closing seconds.
