When the Purchase Line Red Dragons are rolling, they’re running the ball.
The Dragons rolled over Blairsville on Friday night for their second straight win behind Josh Syster, who forms a 1-2 punch with Cullen Goncher out of the backfield.
Syster rushed for 167 yards on only 13 carries and hauled in a pass and took it 46 yards for a score to open the scoring in a 42-16 romp. Purchase Line jumped out to a 28-0 lead, with Syster scoring twice more on runs covering 22 and 11 yards. He racked up 213 yards from scrimmage on only 14 touches for an average of 15.2 yards per play.
On the season, Syster has rushed for 510 yards and six touchdowns and has six receptions for 89 yards and a score. He averages 7.5 yards per carry, and the Red Dragons are churning out 277.5 rushing yards per game.
Last season, Syster rushed for 966 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore.
Purchase Line has the unenviable task of playing Ligonier Valley this week, but the Red Dragons are sitting in playoff position at the halfway point of the season. After this week, they have Penns Manor, United and Saltsburg waiting on their Heritage Conference schedule and then play a crossover game against a WestPAC team in Week 10.
