Saltsburg's Angelo Bartolini helped lead the Trojans to a victory over Windber on Friday and the No. 4 seed in the District 6 playoffs.

Eight of the nine Heritage Conference teams that qualified for the District 6 football playoffs will open the postseason this weekend.

Three games involving area teams are set Friday and two more are scheduled Saturday in the Class 1A and 2A brackets.

Six of the eight teams are matched against each other. In Class 1A, Homer-Center (6-4, sixth seed) plays host to Northern Cambria (4-6, 11th) on Friday, and Purchase Line (6-4, seventh) welcomes Blairsville on Saturday in matchups involving Heritage Conference teams.

Penns Manor (3-7, 12th), which extended its area record for postseason appearances to 13, plays at Claysburg-Kimmel (7-3, fifth) on Friday. 

The other Class 1A matchup has Glendale (ninth, 5-5) playing at Bishop McCort (eighth, 505) on Saturday.

Bishop Guilfoyle (first, 8-2), Portage (second, 8-2), Juniata Valley (third, 8-2) and Saltsburg (fourth, 7-3) drew first-round byes. Saltsburg gets the winner of the Penns Manor-Claysburg game on Saturday, Nov. 9, at home.

In Class 2A, West Shamokin (seventh, 5-5) visits Ligonier Valley (second, 10-0) on Friday in a matchup of Heritage Conference teams. Marion Center (fifth, 7-3) visits Penns Valley (fourth, 9-1) on Saturday.

The other Class 2A game has Cambria Heights (sixth, 5-5) playing at Bellwood-Antis (third, 10-0) on Saturday.

Richland (first, 10-0) drew a first-round bye because Southern Huntingdon (eighth, 4-6) chose not to participate in the playoffs.

All games are at 7 p.m.

All second-round games are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10. The semifinals and championships follow on consecutive weekends.

Apollo-Ridge (7-3) will learn its playoff Class 2A matchup this evening when the WPIAL holds its pairings meeting.
