Indiana beat Penn-Trafford for the first time in the eight-year history of the girls’ golf program, scoring a 193-197 victory Thursday in a WPIAL Section 3-AAA match at the Indiana Country Club.
An Indiana golfer did not take the medalist honor, but consistency was the key. Quinn Martineau shot a 44 to lead the way. She was followed by Hannah Reilly with a 49, Sydney Brice with a 50, Ally Conrad with a 50 and Jenny Todd with a 61.
Penn-Trafford’s Lauren Barber was the medalist with a 41.
Indiana raised its record to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in section play.
Indiana plays Monday against Gateway at Murrysville Golf Course.
Holuta, Martineau qualify for semifinals
GREENSBURG — Indiana’s Alex Holuta qualified for the WPIAL Section 3-AAA individual boys’ golf semifinals Tuesday at Hannastown Golf Club.
Holuta, a sophomore, carded an 81 during the section qualifying round to reach the semifinals, which will be played Monday at either Hannastown or Willowbrook Country Club.
The top 18 will advance to the WPIAL finals at Fox Chapel.
Zach Palko shot an 88 for Indiana, Danny Williams carded a 90, Jack Fischer had a 97, Zach Eisenhower posted a 101 and Walker Raykes had a 104.
• CONNELLSVILLE — Indiana’s Quinn Martineau qualified for the WPIAL Section 3-AAA individual girls’ golf finals Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Country Club.
Martineau carded an 81 on the par-72 course to place fourth overall. She will compete in the individual finals on Oct. 2 at Diamond Run Golf Club.
The qualifying score was 92.
Hannah Reilly fell three strokes shy with a 95 to take 12th place. Sydney Brice shot a 102, Sara Kane had a 114 and Jenny Todd had a 124.
Ligonier Valley caps conference sweep
BOLIVAR — Ligonier Valley finished undefeated in Heritage Conference play with a sweep of visiting West Shamokin and Homer-Center in a triangular boys’ golf match Tuesday at Champion Lakes Golf Course.
The Rams edged West Shamokin, 216-222, and defeated Homer-Center, 216-283. West Shamokin beat Homer-Center, 222-283.
Ligonier Valley capped its regular season with a 12-1 record while finishing 10-0 in the conference.
Ryan Jones carded a 39 to earn the medalist honor for the Rams. Ryan Harbert shot a 41, Jon Rankin posted a 42, Gunnar Elliott had a 46 and Logan Smith shot a 48.
For West Shamokin, Eric Spencer fell one stroke off the lead with a 40. Nate Zik shot a 41, Jake McCullough had a 43, Sean McCullough posted a 47 and Tyler Geist had a 51.
For Homer-Center, Evan Ober shot a 46, Ian Vilcek had a 49, Ryan Sardone carded a 56, Jon Gearhart had a 62 and Jonah Arone had a 70.
Ligonier Valley plays host to today’s Heritage Conference Championship tournament.
Bobcats, Rams win golf matches
BLAIRSVILLE — Blairsville defeated visiting Homer-Center, 240-248, in a Heritage Conference golf match Monday at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course.
Alex Kirkland and Carson McCully each shot a 46 to lead the Bobcats. Cameron Reaugh posted a 47, Braden Staats shot a 49 and Cole Stuchal had a 52.
Homer-Center’s Evan Ober shot a 40 to earn the medalist honor. Ian Vilcek shot a 43, John Gearhart had a 51, Jonah Arone shot a 53 and Ryan Sardone had a 61.
Blairsville and Homer-Center will compete in the Heritage Conference Championships at Champion Lakes Golf Course on Wednesday.
• HASTINGS — Ligonier Valley defeated host Northern Cambria, 221-230, in a Heritage Conference boys’ golf match Monday at Cambrian Hills Golf Course.
The Rams remained unbeaten in conference play at 8-0 and improved to 10-1 overall.
Gunnar Elliott posted a 41 to earn the medalist honor for Ligonier Valley. Jon Rankin and Ryan Jones each shot a 44, and Isaac Neidbalson and Logan Smith each had a 46.
For Northern Cambria, Derek Stafford led the way with a 43. Tyler Kerfonta shot a 44, Aaron Krug had a 46, Troy Paronish shot a 48 and Nathan Bolvin had a 49.
Ligonier Valley plays host to Homer-Center and West Shamokin in a conference triangular match today.
Northern Cambria will compete in the Heritage Conference Championships at Champion Lakes Golf Course on Wednesday.
Indiana girls lose golf match
MURRYSVILLE — Indiana lost to host Franklin Regional, 183-201, in a WPIAL Class 3AAA girls’ golf match Monday at Murrysville Golf Club.
Quinn Martineau shot a 46 to lead the Indians. Sydney Brice carded a 50, Sara Kane had a 51, and Hannah Reilly and Jenny Todd each hot a 54.
Franklin Regional’s Lila Shilling posted a 44 to earn the medalist honor.
Indiana (7-3, 3-3 section) was set to compete in the WPIAL Individual Qualifier this morning at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Connellsville.
