ALTOONA — Homer-Center will go into the PIAA basketball playoffs as a third seed after beeating West Branch, 56-48, in the District 6 Class 2A consolation game Thursday at Altoona High School.

Jaden Evanick scored a game-high 26 points to lead Homer-Center (17-9). Ryan Sardone added 13 points.

Doug Kolesar led West Branch (19-7) with 14 points and Trenton Bellomy had 13.

Homer-Center trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter and held a three-point lead, 31-28, at halftime. The lead was one, 41-40, going into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats outscored West Branch 15-8 in the final period.

Homer-Center plays in the top half of the bracket — or eastern half — but its first game is Saturday, March 7, against the District 5 champion. North Star (21-3) plays Windber (17-7) at Pitt Johnstown on Saturday afternoon to determine the District 5 champion.
