PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP — South Williamsport scored four runs in its final at-bat to pull out an 9-8 win over Indiana in the opening game of the Little League 12U girls’ softball state tournament on Tuesday.
Jayla Peterson suffered the loss for Indiana. She struck out six and walked only one, but South Williamsport pounded out 14 hits, and Indiana committed several errors.
Maggie Cunnigham went 4-for-4 with a double to lead Indiana at the plate. Peterson scored three runs, and Haley Hamilton drove in three on the strength of three hits.
Indiana scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second en route to building an 8-5 lead. South Williamsport scored once in the first, three times in the second and once in the fifth.
Indiana plays in the elimination bracket today.
