The IUP women moved up to fourth and the men remained ninth in the NCAA Division II weekly college basketball polls.

The Crimson Hawks moved up one spot in the women’s poll after spending the last two weeks at No. 5. It is their highest ranking since ending the 2018-19 season at No. 4.

IUP’s team play at California this evening, with the women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30. The California women are 16-6, and the men are 15-7. 

In the women’s poll, IUP has spent six straight weeks inside the top 10 and extended its streak to 48 consecutive weeks ranked in the top 25.

The Hawks extended their school record to 19 straight wins with a 77-48 victory over Slippery Rock on Saturday. They improved to 21-1 overall and 16-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

IUP is the top-ranked one-loss team in the poll. The top three spots are held down by undefeated Drury (23-0) of Missouri at No. 1 with 18 of the 23 first-place votes, Ashland (23-0) of Ohio at No. 2 after picking up the remaining five first-place votes and Texas A&M-Commerce (22-0) at No. 3. Lee (22-1) of Tennessee rounds out the top five.

IUP is one of two Atlantic Region teams in the rankings with Virginia Union (18-3) sitting at No. 13. Two other in-region teams — Lincoln (22-3) and Bowie State (19-3) — are receiving votes.

In the men’s poll, IUP remained ninth for the second straight week. It is the 12th straight week that they are part of the top 10.

The Hawks improved to 19-2 overall and 14-2 in the PSAC after taking down Slippery Rock, 96-60, at home Saturday night.

This week’s NABC rankings don’t include much change as the top 11 teams held onto their rankings from a week ago. No. 1 Northwest Missouri State (22-1) received all 16 first-place votes with Lincoln Memorial (23-1) of Tennessee following at No. 2, West Texas A&M (23-1) at No. 3, UC San Diego (23-1) at No. 4 and Nova Southeastern (18-2) of Florida at No. 5.

Shippensburg (19-4), of the PSAC East, joined IUP in this week’s poll, moving back into the rankings at No. 24.

After this evening’s game, IUP plays host to Gannon on Saturday evening.
