Logan Williams. Homer-Center. #22. Senior, Running back. 6-foot-2, 161 pounds.

Homer-Center’s Logan Williams had a game this season in which he gained 301 yards. He didn’t rack up those kind of numbers Friday night, but his big runs helped Homer-Center avoid an upset.

Williams rushed for 158 yards on 18 carries and scored his team’s only touchdowns in a 13-7 victory over Marion Center. His 41-yard run and the ensuing extra-point kick gave Homer-Center a 7-6 lead in the third quarter, and his 73-yard burst late in the fourth quarter gave the Wildcats a 13-7 lead. The defense then stepped up and made a goal-line stand in the waning seconds to preserve the victory. He leads the area in rushing with 620 yards through four games. He is averaging 9.7 yards per carry, also tops in the area.

Ligonier Valley’s John Caldwell and Aaron Tutino have been named to the 2018 Class 2A Pennsylvania Football Writers All-State Team.

PORTAGE — A couple of its standout players battered and bruised, United entered the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s District 6 Class 1A semifinal-round playoff game looking like it was beyond life support and about ready to put the equipment away until next fall.

ALTOONA — Homer-Center quarterback Ben Schmidt broke the school’s career passing yardage record on Saturday night. The sophomore connected with Cobe Daugherty on a 34-yard pass midway through the first quarter. Two plays later, the Wildcats reached the 50-yard line.

HOMER CITY — The Homer-Center Wildcats kept their home playoff record perfect Friday night at Memorial Field, and they did it without their starting tailback.
