WEST LEBANON — Tanner Yard hit an inside-the-park home run, Devin Fairman pitched four shutout innings and Indiana County League baseball returned to West Lebanon with a 9-2 victory over Apollo on Thursday evening.
The ICL, in conjunction with the Indiana Area Baseball Boosters, opened the season Sunday. West Lebanon was playing for the first time after receiving a forfeit in its interleague opener.
“It was just great to get out and play,” West Lebanon manager Bo Putt said. “It was a pretty good effort, 1 through 9 and from the guys on the bench, especially when you’re not really able to practice much. It was a nice evening.
Yard’s inside-the-park home run to right-center field at Bertolino Park was part of a nine-run uprising in the third through fifth innings. West Lebanon scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth and four times in the fifth.
Yard finished with three hits and three RBIs. Fairman stroked two hits and drove in a run. He moved to second base after pitching the first four innings and striking out four without issuing a walk.
Brady Yard also banged out two hits and drive in two runs.
West Lebanon finished with nine hits and committed only one error.
Apollo scored its runs on Jake Stackiewicz’s home run in the fifth inning.
West Lebanon plays Brunzies in an interleague game Sunday at the White Township Recreation Complex. All Sunday games at are the complex.
Apollo plays Bowman Coin Collectors on Sunday.
